Mariachi Legends Key Art of Lady Death Staring Down at La Sombra Battling Foes

Mariachi Legends, a 2D action title developed by Halberd Studios and Freedom Games which blends Mexican and Japanese themes, made its debut via a cryptic reveal trailer.

Shown during the PC Gaming Showcase, the trailer offers a glimpse at both the story and gameplay of the upcoming indie title. It kicks off with a female voice speaking to a detective named Pablo Cruz about how their powers are a gift that must be used sooner rather than later. It's revealed that this voice belongs to Lady Death, who seems to know more about the state of affairs Pablo is trapped in than she's letting on.

As this exchange occurs, Pablo is seen walking through train cars. The art style of this segment is reminiscent of classics like Castlevania or Metroid, but with its own flair and spin. Before long, a scene is shown of Pablo transforming into La Sombra, a masked warrior who wields a sword and seems capable of doing away with even the most intimidating of threats. He proves as much when he's shown quickly slaughtering two enemies at once, their blood splashing across the wall in the blink of an eye.

The trailer concludes with the reveal that the game is currently in development and that it can be wish-listed on Steam.

It's a fairly solid reveal all things considered, and there's plenty to get excited about for Metroidvania fans. The full trailer can be viewed down below.

Mariachi Legends is currently set to release on PC, though a release window hasn't yet been revealed. For more news on the game and other promising Metroidvania titles, stay tuned to TechRaptor.
